Should she continue the performing tours she loves so dearly, with her friend and companion Walter McCraye, or should she devote the rest of her life to perfecting her poetry? The conflict between the necessity to compromise in order to make an income and the desire to create good art is one many of us can identify with. To Indian performer, Pauline Johnson (Tekahionwake) the decision is made all the more poignant by the fact that her health is suffering, that she can’t imagine life without Walter, and that she has doubts about her abilities as a poet. On a mythical night in Kamloops, she makes a decision.
