Unscrupulous developers plot to destroy all of Paris to exploit the oil that they believe lies under the city. The common people, including a deaf signer, feel helpless. Aurelie, the madwoman of Chaillot, decides to take action. She summons three friends, eccentric old ladies like herself. With the ragman acting in their defense, the exploiters are tried and found guilty in absentia. Lured to Aurelie's basement apartment with the promise of oil, the wicked men are sent into the bowels of the earth, from which there is no escape. The world is saved. Two young people, Irma and Pierre, discover true love.
