Purple is for Flowers by Michael L. Poirier

Joseph Martin is a fifty-year-old businessman who has led a rather predictable, mundane life. During the second year of college he dated a girl named Rita Stewart, they were quite in love with each other and probably would have married but for Rita's family.

Joe met Brenda at the bank when he applied for his first business loan; as a matter of fact, she was the one who put his application together and approved it. Six months later, they found themselves signing another contract together, one of committed love. A year later they were blessed with a bouncing baby boy, who they named William. Bill now manages one of his Dad's three automotive stores. He has taken a liking to Sandra, the manager of the Langley store and even though they haven't officially dated yet, it seems only a matter of time before they end up in a relationship.

Out of the blue Joe gets a call from Rita requesting they have a coffee and talk. His life starts changing at a frightening pace... as a matter of fact all of them need to take a reality check.

It's a story of love, life and the cruel twists of fate that, unless they actually happened to you, would be dismissed as impossible distortions of the real world.
