The other side of the closet explores the issue of homophobia when it's protagonist, a teenager named Carl, is outed by his friends. Carl's life unravels as his secret is revealed to his peers and family. When Carl begins to take steps to address his own internalized homophobia he is confronted by the person who outed him and the play reaches its dramatic conclusion.
