It is the mid 'thirties', in the heart of Depression, when Mendel Fish, an enigmatic peddler arrives on Main Street in Montreal with a solution to everyone's problems. A latter-day Robin Hood, he gains the confidence of the people by fulfilling their modest dreams. When Mendel's vision of brotherhood is shattered, he must return to the mythical Utopia on the other side of the Sambatyon River where the ten lost tribes live to this very day.
