Lily's Song is a loving tribute to the author's mother, whom was struck with Alzheimer's late in life. The play opens with Lily downstage right in a Nursing Home, and the character of her Memory takes the stage and addresses the audience. She tells them that although Lily has forgotten this, she holds Lily's splendour, and by the end of the play, so shall they. The play then moves by lighting (the primary metaphor of the play) and music back and forth between Lily's memories and the Home. The underlying theme of universal loss drives each scene, some humorous, some tragic, but ultimately they play is a testament of love.
