Debbie's husband Jonathan has died of drug-related AIDS. With her is her cousin Sue. In the shadows are the spirits of Jonathan and Sue's mother Vera. The play moves back and forth between the deaths of their loved ones and the attempt to ease the guilt and suffering of the living.
