A choral, image-based response to the 1989 massacre at l'Ecole Polytechnique in Montreal. Mary, a passionate young mathematician, struggles with sexism and hostility in a university engineering department. She is haunted both by events in Montreal and by Hypatia, the female philosopher and mathematician who in 415 AD was killed by an angry mob in Alexandria. The play is a dreamscape of the various realities that inform Mary's decision whether or not to quit school.
