Wanderlust: Songs of Travel, Solitude and Homecoming by Elisabeth Wagner
This script is for a theatrical recital. It weaves together selections from the poetry and prose of Rainer Maria Rilke. The music is varied, in several languages (English, German, French, Spanish) from late 19th Century to late 20th Century, from Schubert to Les Miz. Through the combined texts and songs, there is a story of yearning to travel (wanderlust), solitude, exploration of foreign lands and cultures, and then in turn, the yearning to return home.
