Casting notes: The play itself contains 15 distinct characters. The original production divided these up between 7 actors, doubling Billy Bones with Long-John Silver, Patron, Captain Smollett, Samuel Arrow, and Tom Morgan, Black Dog with Israel Hands, Dr. Livesey with Tom O'Brien, and Mrs. Hawkins with Gemima Gunn and Dick. You could, however, easily expand the cast to a full 15, making it an excellent production for schools / community theatres.
With the exception of Long-John Silver and Dr. Livesey, all other roles are potential for gender swapping / trans/non-binary/gender non-conforming actors.
