The Decision by David Laing Dawson

Based on a true story. It is May 20, 1940. The Germans have occupied Holland, the Dutch army disbanded. Then a sign goes up in every town: All Dutch officers must report to City Hall (now Gestapo headquarters). Two young Dutch officers, friends from their University days, and then related when Pieter marries Victor's sister, meet secretly the night before the deadline to report. They argue about their choices: report to Gestapo headquarters as ordered, or refuse and go underground and join the resistance.

The parallels between the years in Germany leading up to 1940 and Donald Trump's America compelled the playwright to write this play in 2017, and the argument between Pieter and Victor resonates prophetically into 2022.
