Laurie Ray Hill’s most purely comical play, Social Animals is a one-act romp for two: a woman and her dog.
In the second year of Covid, Nora is starting to lose it, after too much social distancing. Self-doubt is preying on her mind. Odd ideas begin to take over. Rufus, with all four feet on the ground, tries to haul her back to normal. If only she would call a friend, but Nora is getting too nervous to reach out. Does anyone miss Nora? If only someone would email!
By the time an invitation to lunch with old friends arrives, Nora is so far gone in flaky ideas that she thinks she might have been long dead in her own house and now wandering her old walks as an overweight and unfashionable ghost. Picking up the scent of Nora's friend, Rufus slips his collar and runs. When the friend calls to say she's found Nora's dog, normalcy begins to flow back and better times are on the way.
