A large estate home on on e of the gulf islands is split into two suites with a shared paradise garden. The original owners are "still living with my Mom" Day McKinnon and his divorcee mother, Jean. Their new neighbours are a Turkish family, the Zekis. Leyla has joined her parents for the summer because her mother Ergul is now in palliative care for liver cancer.
