Crime and E-Punishment by Elmar Maripuu

It is Gloria’s first day as a defence attorney. Her client has been accused of littering and insists on pleading not guilty. The trial is taking place in a courtroom operated by Logilex, a private criminal justice provider, on behalf of the provincial government. Logilex’s AI software has been giving cause for concern but hopefully the latest release will address the issues.

The software comes up with a guilty verdict, which is not unexpected. However, the death sentence seems to be a bit of a stretch. As the lethal injection paraphernalia is wheeled in, Gloria submits an appeal to Logilex’s Appeal Central customer service line.

Will the appeal be answered in time-priority sequence before Gloria’s client is toast?
