Artificial & Intelligent by Gillian Corsiatto

Mother Heidi, and her two adult daughters, Miranda, and Kiana, are visiting the beach after another year of university completed by Miranda. Though Heidi and Kiana plan to relax, Miranda’s bad attitude about the state of the world spoils the fun. After she angrily storms off, Billy, the humanistic AI robot programmed to clean the beach, meets the family. He explains his duty and why he was made. Billy, although a robot, makes sure to introduce himself to each member of the family individually and learn more about them. Later, when Kiana and Heidi are elsewhere, Miranda confides in Billy about the way she has been feeling, and he gives her some advice that might just save the family’s vacation and bring them closer together like they were when the sisters were children.
