Who'll Come a-Waltzing Matilda With Me? by Robert J. Wheeler
BARRY, an eccentric marathon runner, stops at Donna’s Dinner for a drink and rest with MATILDA, his partner. They are near the end of a marathon that is dedicated to helping endangered species. Neither are interested in winning the race, just finishing it. Both wear sports clothes with their entry numbers on the chests. Donna takes an immediate dislike to the couple, wants them to leave, begs them to leave since the couple’s presence has caused most of her customers to leave with meals half finished. It’s not Barry that Donna objects to, it’s Matilda. Barry’s girlfriend, Matilda, is a blown-up sex doll. The three lead a merry dance throughout -- first detesting, moving into liking, then to loving.
An earlier version of Who’ll Come A-Waltzing With Me was performed at the London One Act Festival during the November 2017 Festival.
